What was first?

By naming feelings in words, the human being could begin to think:
And now we go and stand with our own self on top of the dictionary of the world, on top of the bible.
And then you will feel under the soles of your feet what is true and what is untruth; because what is untruth, that pulls you down and what is true, pushes you upwards.
And now your dictionary: I am truth, I have always been true, I have never cheated a human being before, I am not envious, I am not jealous.
All my characteristics, everything which you can image is feeling, you see.
Because the human being has built up jealousy, the word jealousy and hatred, the human being got to know himself.
You now know what jealousy is, but you did not know that in the jungle.
Yes, then you saw it from the face, it gives the hatred which manifested itself, it could be seen, and you could absorb that.
Now you are faced with a social word.

Thinking from feeling

We can think from our source as feeling:
When I start to think – I am now talking, and I am talking about you, and I am talking about myself, or I am talking about something else – then I draw that from my source as feeling, because of the millions of lives which I have had as man and woman.
And that is now my personality.
You have an own personality.
And that personality shows itself by means of your feeling, that you do not possess that, and not this, that and the other.

Caution

In the book ‘Mental illnesses seen from the Other Side’, master Alcar follows a soul which perished in a past life from experiencing lust:
That flaming passion carries us along through all the grades and this inevitably leads to our physical and spiritual downfall.
That kind of love cannot weather the storm, and it is destructive because of the passion one experiences.”
Mental Illnesses seen from the Other Side, 1945
The question is whether this soul will have learned from this experience in her next life:
Is the personality not subject to the same laws in his next life?”
Mental Illnesses seen from the Other Side, 1945
Alcar explains to André (Jozef Rulof) that the soul will be careful in the new life not to experience the same thing:
A person’s own caution, his ability to protect himself is roused, André.
The personality has not forgotten the suffering and was never able to rid itself of all the misery.
The memory of all that misery must also awaken again.
This will contribute to its own safeguard and to the awareness of its present life.
The personality now watches over itself and over the conscious phase it lives in.
We do not relapse into the selfsame condition over and over again, because misery of that kind cuts deep wounds into the human life of the soul.
Nonetheless, that new life will see us break down again.
So the soul as a personality is prepared and watches over every step it takes in its life on earth.
This time, life recoils from love.
Why, when we want to analyse the characters cosmically, are there so many timid people on earth?
There are people who, during their entire life, are unable to open up to others.
Do you believe, André, that this has no meaning either?
Not a single thought can come about without creation being involved, nor can it be thought up independently of all the laws in space, because every thought touches upon a law and constitutes a law in itself, since the personality represents these laws.
It implies that all this has been experienced at some time or other and that it carries spiritual weight for the personality, no matter what we are or how we behave.

Thinking as materialization of feeling

In this way, we reach the seven grades of one thought:
Every thought stems from our inner life. It is attuned to it and is related to it; otherwise, that thought would still belong to nothingness.
Yet that is impossible, because we exist and have created this thought. Everything we create as human beings has the chance to be, and it incorporates a world of its own.
Here too, we find the seven grades that every single thought is classified in.
Every thought is destined to represent a world of its own, and that thought is part of our personality.
It is a definite fact and a law that the personality will live heedfully and be careful in its next life, because its life went to ruin during its former existence.
This time, that life will, at all costs, wants to prevent this from happening.
This explains the foundation, which this life is now based on; this was acquired through grief and sorrow.
The memory of that misery has now become conscious and it acts as a safeguard for this life.”
Mental Illnesses seen from the Other Side, 1945
Feeling can be materialized in thoughts, but also in playing the piano or painting:
You do not think, you feel.
There is no thinking.
What you call thinking, that does not exist: there is only feeling.
But when it comes here, and your mouth opens, the thinking becomes a material law.
You start to think of something from your life of feeling, feel something, you call that thinking but that is feeling, you materialize it – another life starts to play the piano and paint or write, do something, you have an earthly task – now it becomes material feeling, the inner life of feeling materializes.
Questions and Answers Part 5, 1950
Feeling is the rarefied spiritual body that materializes in the day-consciousness as a result of thinking:
‘What is thinking?
What is a thought?
And where does the source lie?’
You are that yourself.
You are the source.
Your life of feeling is the spiritual body for your material, your day consciousness, your personality.
