Déjà vu experiences

Jozef Rulof asks his master Alcar how someone can orientate himself in a foreign country:
‘I spoke to somebody, Alcar, who visited an other country he had never been before, yet he recognized many things and could orient himself.
He knew exactly where he was and found it very strange.
I got the feeling, he said, that I lived here before.
Does this belong to his own past?’
‘That is possible.
Some people can feel the past, but in order to look consciously into the past a connection from this side is necessary.
Life on earth occupies man completely and he cannot orient himself.
However, when he feels something, the past usually dominates and it suddenly penetrates his consciousness, though he can’t find an explanation for it.’
The Origin of the Universe, 1939
During a contact evening, a member of the audience asks what it means that some people see a flashback from their previous life:
(Lady in the hall): ‘If some people in this life suddenly get a flash of what they did or saw before, so clear that you can almost not tell about it, but that you feel it, it is so tangible that ...’
That you know it inwardly.
(Lady in the hall): ‘ ...that you could lay it down as it were.’
Yes, and now what?
(Lady in the hall): ‘What does that mean?’
Then you have experienced a flash from your previous life.
And that is not so simple to record that.
Questions and Answers Part 6, 1951
Master Zelanus confirms the origin from a previous life:
You call that a flash.
And you materialize those flashes.
Or those flashes represent something, mean something, and then they are gone again.
Then you have experienced something from your subconscious, and that is natural, of course, you now have contact with your previous lives.
Questions and Answers Part 6, 1951
This does not mean that people can look consciously into the previous life at any moment of the day.
The past has sealed itself off with good reason:
We meet so many people, from whom we know, that we could love them and who assert that power of attraction on us.
There is something in those other people, which connects you with those lives, but you do not know, what it is.
Then you must be able to see infallibly and namely into the past, which you can never do under your own power, even if you are sensitive to it, because the past has closed itself off.
But a great deal of people received phenomena, saw themselves again in those places and knew exactly, what a city like that, where they had never been before in this life, looked like from inside and outside.’

Some people think that they know their previous lives, but Jozef warns to not just presume something just like that and to accept that as certainty.
During a contact evening, he says that people must be cosmically conscious in order to be able to look back into the past completely consciously and under their own power.
This means that only the masters from the fourth sphere in the hereafter are capable of this at any moment.
Mrs Devis asks: ‘There was recently a gentleman, who told my friend and me, that we had already known each other in the sixteenth century.
He said that we were attracted to each other again as two friends because of that.
Is that possible?’
Jozef says: ‘Of course, that is possible, but I think, madam, that that man is just presuming something now.
After all, you must be cosmically conscious, if you want to be able to see back into your past.
Is that man like that?
No, we will just assume this, there is no certainty.
The intention is good, but now we can put everything up in the air and do not know it.
Therefore you were a man then and a woman now, she too?
Or is she now a he?
If the world were to hear us, people would laugh.
Yet all of this is the truth, but it regards certainty!
However, usually it is the own grade of life for the feeling and the personality, so that the human being feels and possesses spiritual affinity and we can accept this.

Studies

During a contact evening, Jozef tells about studies into previous lives:
There is a doctor living in Sweden, who puts the people under hypnosis and takes that man and woman back to the past.
He lets the woman look back and suddenly she says: ‘I am now a man; I am married, there are my wife and children.
I am called so and so and I have a farm.’
After researching this information at the town hall everything was confirmed.
One and another had been in the newspapers and there was talk about it.
This doctor says: ‘I received the proof from 150 people.’
Now decide for yourself what you think about it.
But science cannot yet accept this.’

During other contact evenings, Jozef warns about the dangers which can be caused by hypnosis.
It is not necessary either to consciously remember our previous lives, because we experience the fruits of these lives through our life of feeling anyway.
The spiritual leader of Jozef, master Zelanus, indicates that the efforts to expand spiritually in previous lives are not lost:
(Gentleman in the hall): ‘I just find it a pity that we can no longer remember our previous lives.’
You are this, you are now.
What do you want to experience from your previous life?
Did you really think, if you had been in a temple and you had reached mastership, did you really think that you could smother that?
Why are you here?
What are you longing for?
(Gentleman in the hall): ‘I am saying it, because I would then be much more convinced of a life after death.’
You are now.
Now that you live in this life, in the time that you are here, you have probably mastered a millionth gram of feeling in consciousness, sensitivity and longing.
A millionth gram, in order to come here and to read those books, sir, my friend.
Because the rest still do not need this.
That is a wonderful possession.

Living in the now

Actually, it is a great mercy to not consciously remember our past, because we also experienced misery during many lives:
Man on earth is unaware of all those lives which is a mighty grace, for human strength, our nervous system, is not designed to bear all that sorrow consciously.
The Origin of the Universe, 1939
We consciously feel what is important for our present life:
‘But tell me, master, how is it that the past lies hidden in the human soul and people know nothing about it?’
‘Because the material body cannot deal with it.
Yet man will consciously feel what he has to experience.
For example, your art.’
‘Yes, I feel and understand you.’
‘All other life experiences dissolve in that earthly life, because people cannot and will not accept the meaning in that life.
Many people do not even believe that there is a life after death, others do, but there are just a few who can accept the past.
Yet it lies within people, it lies hidden deep within the being.
The Cycle of the Soul, 1938
A member of the audience asks master Zelanus:
(Lady in the hall): ‘I mean ...
‘Yes.
You say, continuing with karma, that we do not meet any human being in the life whom we have not met in previous lives too.
Now you talk for us once a fortnight; did you also meet us in all those other lives?
I wanted to ask you that.’
Questions and Answers Part 6, 1951
Master Zelanus replies that we would no longer live in the now if we were to know everything from the past:
Yes, we can tell you those things, but then you will no longer live.
If you know all of that from the past, then you will forget the now.
And it is this.
