Purpose of the eye witness report

During an out-of-body experience, Jozef Rulof attended a cremation.
During this out-of-body experience, he was guided by his spiritual leader Alcar.
After his last life on earth in 1641, Alcar entered the hereafter.
From there he studied the earthly life for a long time and extensively, as a result of which he achieved the spiritual grade of master.
He lets Jozef leave his body and spiritually attend a cremation in order to bring this new knowledge to earth through him.
The aim of master Alcar is to give us insight into the unknown spiritual consequences of cremation, so that, with knowledge of matters, we can decide whether we will be cremated or buried.
After all, this knowledge cannot be acquired by the earthly human being under his own power, because our physical senses do not perceive the spiritual consequences.
As a result, people choose cremation without knowing what they are choosing.
In the first book by Jozef Rulof, A View into the Hereafter, the eye witness account of cremation is stated.
In this book Jozef is called André.
During the out-of-body experience, he is taken by master Alcar to the cremation of a conductor.
When they see many people standing around the deceased conductor in the room where he died, Alcar says to André:
‘These are his friends who will be singing shortly to pay him their last respects.
Listen, they’re already starting.’
They sang at the top of their voice, to show how dearly they cherished the deceased, and how terrible this farewell was to them.
‘He used to be their conductor, André, and now they’re singing one of his songs.’
All around the bier André saw lots of wreaths and bouquets from various musical groups and choirs.
‘Come closer, André, they will soon have finished their lamentations, which only increase his suffering, and then you’ll be able to hear the real truth.’
The singing had come to an end, and they filed past the bier one by one to bid their leader and friend a last farewell.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
Master Alcar says that the laments increase the suffering of the conductor even more.
Although the conductor has died, according to Alcar he can still suffer.
Master Alcar explains that after dying the deceased human being still remains connected to his earthly body by means of a connection of feeling.
Alcar calls that connection of feeling the fluid cord, in order to indicate that this rarefied connection is of spiritual substance and, just like the spiritual body, is not perceived by earthly eyes.
By means of this connection of feeling, the deceased still feels what is happening to his body.
The connection decreases as the body decomposes, and as the deceased human being can withdraw his feeling from his earthly life.
For the soul of the human being, it is necessary that this withdrawing of feeling can take place in a harmonic way, in the peace that the deceased needs, without his body being cremated.
This is why cremation is already analyzed in the first book by Jozef Rulof (André):
This is why, my brother André, we already analysed cremation in our first book and it is urgently necessary for the soul as a human being, because she now moves away from the harmonic laws for the material dying.
The Cosmology of Jozef Rulof Part 1, 1944
The harmonic laws for the material dying are dealt with in the article ‘dying as passing on’.
In the article ‘spirit and spiritual body’, the nature of the spiritual body is described, which is the vehicle of the soul after death.
Jozef can see that spiritual body clairvoyantly or in a disembodied state.
However, for the majority of the people on earth, this spiritual body is not perceivable, so many people do not believe in the existence of such a body.
Yet that spiritual body has been perceived by many people.
The human being on earth then speaks of ‘spirits’ or ‘ghosts’.
The religious human being sometimes sees ‘apparitions’ or ‘saints’.
Many dying people see the spiritual body of their beloved deceased ones beside their death bed.
And during a near-death experience thousands of people experience that they can perceive and think outside of their earthly body.
A number of them experience that they do this with a different and more rarefied body, which is not perceived by earthly people.

Connection with the body

During the out-of-body experience, from the spiritual world, André can perceive not just the earthly circumstances but also the spiritual reality of the deceased:
‘Don’t you hear anything, André?’
‘Yes, Alcar, but I don’t know where it’s coming from.
I hear a soft moaning, is it the bereaved?’
‘Partly, my boy.
Come closer.’
They stood directly beside the coffin and André saw a man lying inside who seemed about sixty years old.
‘Now do you hear anything?’
The moaning was much louder now.
‘Yes, Alcar, it’s terrible, and I also see the spiritual body that’s tossing and turning.
It want’s to get away, Alcar, do you see that?’
‘Yes, son.
It want’s to get away, but it can’t.
It’s being held back.
There, my boy, right before you, the greatest agony is being suffered, and this unfortunate man prepared it all himself.
This man, who is being kept back in his physical body, is going to be burnt, André.’
‘Oh Alcar, how terrible!
Does he have to go through this while he’s still alive?’
‘That’s just it, my son, and soon he will have to suffer much more.
His physical body will be burnt, and in the meantime he must endure this spiritually.
Now you can see how brutally cruel his brothers are, even if they act unwittingly.
This man was honoured and famous, but the gift which God granted him in order to express his feelings in music, just as a painter does in colours, were messed up, spiritually ruined.
He didn’t think about God either, and now that many are gathered around him in prayer, he truly senses the great lack of Divine Love which he never gave and never wanted to see.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
Alcar describes the character of the conductor in order to make it clear why this hateful human being is attached to his body:
Not only did he lack Divine Love, but above all he ridiculed everything that was related to the spiritual.
He too was only known to the people by his exterior, material garment.
They didn’t see the human being in him, who hated and cursed everything.
The signs of veneration which he constantly received put him in a state of self-glorification and inflated ego.
His name was on everyone’s lips, but the triumphs he gained made him forget that he had received his gift from God.
Only strong legs can carry such wealth.
When he finally got that far, he was ready to turn into an instrument of evil.
This marked the beginning of his downfall.
In his exalted position he tried to crush his colleagues, and he destroyed many a musician by his unfair criticism.
He completely forgot that his day would dawn too. Even if this wouldn’t happen on earth, it would come on yonder side of the grave.
Yet there are still people who kept on regarding him as their brother and friend.
People who couldn’t see through his mask and didn’t know him as he is spiritually.
Oh, if only they knew what is happening to him now. They would be filled with horror.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
For the earth this deceased person is ‘dead’.
The ‘deceased’ is now in a rather dazed condition but shortly, when we’re inside the crematorium, he will go mad with revenge.’
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
André still hopes to be able to help this man:
‘Is there nothing we can do, Alcar?
Can’t we set that poor man free?’
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
However, Alcar has to take away this hope:
Neither spirits nor humans can alter anything about this situation, because he has brought it on himself.
He is confronted with living differently.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
Once he fell, and people thought he would die, but a little later, after he had regained his health, he went back to his former way of life and felt hatred towards the people and also towards God, who had given him his cross to bear.
He was felled a second time and confined to his sickbed.
And when he had recovered again, his hatred had become ever stronger, and he couldn’t be set free from our side because he refused to listen to us.
His father has been in the spirit world for a long time, but he couldn’t reach him either.
He tried everything to make his son see the situation he is in, but all to no avail.
He often reverted to spiritism to try to give his son proof of our continued existence, but he just laughed it off and poked fun at everything.
He was totally materialized and had sunken so deep spiritually that he was unable to hold on to this truth.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
At that moment, André and Alcar can no longer help this conductor.
The help can only consist of preventing these types of situations:
From this moment on we will try to help mankind together, André, by emphatically pointing to the dangers which cremation brings about. Of course this warning is primarily intended for those who didn’t live in keeping with God’s laws.
They can become aware of this by getting to know themselves.
What a heavy penalty these individuals must pay for having sunk so deeply, when they must undergo their body’s incineration while they’re still connected to it by the thread of life.
What an unbearable agony they must suffer during the burning process, while the fluid cord holds them captive and they cannot move without dragging their material casing along.
But that must be ruled out, because matter is the vehicle of the spirit and not vice versa. Of course it only applies to this process.
Our final farewell marks the end of our power over our material garment, and this generally coincides with our own wishes.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
If the conductor were to be buried, he would be given the time needed in order to withdraw his feeling and life aura from his body in a natural way.
The conductor needs a great deal of time for this, because he is so attached to the material:
If this poor wretch were to be buried in the usual way, he would stay connected to his physical body until it was completely decayed.
The fluid cord which links him up with matter cannot be broken off by a spiritual doctor, as he created this terrible situation himself.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
The sources of the article ‘dying as passing on’ describe how a spiritual doctor can break the fluid cord for people who are no longer strongly attached to the body.
For the conductor, this is not possible, because as a result of his own actions, he is so attached to his body.
In this light, master Alcar has also described the character and the life style of the conductor.
The conductor has tethered himself to his body and to the material, by not developing a single spiritual or loving feeling during his earthly life.
As a result of his lifestyle, the conductor focused one hundred percent on the material, with the wish to keep that material and that body.
He cannot suddenly discard this inner attitude after his death.
He remains with all his being focused on the material, on the physical.
As a result of his own focus, he therefore keeps the connection of feeling with his body at full force.
When he realizes that the body will be burned while he is still connected to it by the fluid cord, he wishes to remove himself from his body, but he cannot manage it, because he cannot change his whole life of feeling which he spent his whole life building up, in a few days.
He cannot suddenly start to think spiritually, because he has never built up one spiritual thought, he does not know how to do this, and cannot possibly achieve this in those few days after his death.
His material thinking and feeling are the ‘attunement’ to his life of feeling.
Later, during a contact evening, Jozef Rulof explains that everyone with that attunement is attached to his organism:
And everyone who is cremated alive sees that, or dead, because the human being is stuck to his organism if he has that attunement.
Questions and Answers Part 3, 1952
It is the attunement of being coarse and brutal in everything, the ‘coarse-material’ attunement of feeling:
If you are coarse, brutal and you hit, and drag the human being through life by the hair, and rape, and all those other things, then you are stuck to that body, because then you have no light.
Questions and Answers Part 3, 1952
This human being is not yet attuned to a sphere of light in the [[our hereafter|hereafter].
When this human being passes on, he remains connected to his body.
As a result, he experiences a similar process as the human being who commits suicide.
He experiences the shadow of the suicide as it were:
And you are not released from that organism just like that, that happens gradually.
You then experience the shadow as it were of a real rotting process for suicide.
Questions and Answers Part 3, 1952
You will find a complete description of the spiritual consequences of suicide in the article ‘euthanasia and suicide’.

Material paths

Alcar takes André with him to the crematorium where the conductor will be cremated.
Master Alcar refers to the crematorium as a pain bank, a house of sorrows:
‘Look, André, that beautiful building, over there on the hill, it’s the spirit’s rack.
For those who misbehaved on earth, life after death takes on a terrible beginning.
It is said to be a house of peace, but in reality it’s a house of grief.’
Oh man, in spite of your ignorance, realize that you put yourself on that rack, and others too, and instead of honouring those who part from you, you torture them in the most terrible way you could possibly imagine.
Trust us and take this warning to heart, because in your ignorance you mock God’s laws.
We, who dwell in the land on yonder side of the grave, we want to show you the right track, which leads to the truth.
We have no selfish longings, we merely wish to help you.
We want to bring you the truth, because we know how terrible the suffering is, here in the house of grief.
Again we call out to you: Keep onto God’s roads.
Don’t build your own tracks, which are mere matter and dark, because they pass through darkness and the builders were blind and therefore couldn’t see the spiritual light.
We call out to you: Do away with these terrible conditions and return to nature, which you left behind so long ago.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
Master Alcar speaks of material paths.
By material he means that in the case of a cremation the human being does not think of the spiritual continued existence of the soul.
The cremation has only been thought of on the basis of the material, the material body.
In addition, these material paths are also turned away from nature.
The natural path is clear: entrusting the earthly body to the lap of Mother Earth.
Due to the terrible heat inside the incinerator the physical body is consumed with a violence which clashes with all laws of nature and opposes God’s intention.
May this act of violence be entirely abandoned before long for the benefit of mankind, to be replaced by a normal burial.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936

Burnt alive

Alcar knows what André will have to deal with in the crematorium when he will see with his own spiritual eyes what cremation means for the deceased.
We won’t stay on till the end, André.
I mean until the body has been completely incinerated, because this would be too much for you, and too horrible to behold.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
The death lift takes the coffin to the cremation chamber:
This is funeral music, André, and the people who want to attend the solemn incineration are entering from all sides. Afterwards they will tell others how beautiful it was.
Look, André, the poor man is already being placed on the catafalque which will take him down below.
We call it the lift of the dead.’
A last farewell was called out by all those present, and the lift slowly sank down at the tones of the stately organ.
‘We will follow, my boy.
Be strong, because the torture is about to start.
Do you see him, and do you hear him shouting?’
‘Yes, Alcar.’
‘He already sees and feels what is about to happen to him.’
André kept a tight hold on Alcar.
‘Come and stand close to me, my boy.’
Something terrible was going to happen.
They heard the poor man shout: ‘You brutes, murderers, is this how you honour a person?’
But this stream of abuse didn’t trouble those upstairs, they all stood there with frozen faces and were full of pity, without knowing how gruesome this poor man’s fate was.
‘He already feels the infernal pain which his spiritual body must endure, André.’
In the meantime the lift had descended into the combustion chamber.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
The fluid cord cannot break, because the conductor loves the material too much:
‘It’s not bad to die, my son, because death is a mighty saviour, but to be tortured in a way which is unequalled on earth is horrible.
The spirit feels, hears and sees everything, even after it has left the body, because it stays attached to it via the fluid cord.
This only applies to those who are tied to their body, who forgot themselves during their life on earth.
Other situations exist, in which the spirits are all cut off from their physical body.
But this man remains riveted to his body until the link is broken.’
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
And then the horrendous thing takes place:
André looked, and with his spiritual eyes he could clearly perceive the body in the incinerator.
The heat inside didn’t obstruct their vision, as it was a material kind of heat.
The organ was still playing, but the people who had paid their last respects to the ‘deceased’ had left.
André now saw the body cringing, turning to and fro and writhing as if it were still alive, while the shouting, blaring and crying that he heard made him tremble with horror.
It was too much to look at and to listen to.
How dreadful this suffering was!
There were two bodies there in front of him, the physical and the spiritual.
One moment they would be standing, then they would fall and writhe around each other.
‘Oh Alcar, I can’t stand this. Let’s get out of here.’
Alcar put his arm around André’s shoulder to give him support, and they left.
He could still hear the words in his ears: ‘Hypocrites, bastards’, and lots more.
‘It’s terrible, Alcar, it’s horrible.’
‘It certainly is.
Come, my boy, I’ll help you, otherwise you won’t pull through.’
‘Oh Alcar, how terrible.
I never want to see anything like it again.
Nobody can bear this.
Oh, how that man must suffer.’
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
Since the conductor is intertwined in feeling with every fibre of his material body, the fluid cord can only break when the earthly material has been destroyed completely:
‘That’s what cremation is like for those who are tied to the physical body, my son.
The spiritual body won’t be released until after the material one has been entirely destroyed.
You will now understand how necessary it is that people’s eyes are also opened to this aspect, so that they will prefer the graveyard to the crematorium in future.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936

Does this apply to every human being?

After death the human being is attracted by the spiritual world to which he has attunement in feeling.
Like attracts like, and in this way the human being has prepared himself for the hereafter that fits with his inner state.
If he already brought his life on earth into harmony with all life, he will arrive in a sphere of light where all life welcomes him.
If he has already built up the universal love for all life, on earth, that life will give him a luminous spiritual world where he can continue his eternal development.
However, in the case of a cremation, even the human being who is attuned to a sphere of light, has difficulty with the violent destruction of his discarded body.
Alcar indicates that the suffering not only applies to a ‘wretched spirit’ such as the conductor from ‘A View into the Hereafter’ who has attunement in feeling to the ‘Land of Hatred and Lust and Violence’ in the dark spheres, but also for the ‘wretch’ who passes on to a first or second sphere of light.
A description of all these spheres as spiritual worlds and attunements of feeling is introduced in the article ‘spheres in the hereafter’.
But cremation is not only to be condemned for the unfortunate spirits, the happy ones also suffer to some degree.
This depends entirely on the extent of their inner strength. But even if they belong in the first or the second sphere, they should still be advised against cremation.
So it’s all a question of their inner condition and their attunement to the spiritual.
Their happiness and their strength will be in accordance with the light they possess.
And their suffering will coincide with their sorrow and distress.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
Even the human being who is inwardly attuned to the first sphere of light or the second sphere of light is still somewhat materially attuned.
This human being has already achieved a harmony which radiates light in the hereafter, but in the spheres of light he will also have to grow further spiritually in order to completely let go of all the earthly feelings and thoughts.
This why the grade of feeling of the first spheres of light are called fine-material, because it is still material.
This grade of feeling is however more finely attuned than the coarse-material grade of feeling of the Land of Twilight in the dark spheres.
When passing on a few people go directly to the third sphere of light or to the boundary with the fourth sphere of light, but even these people suffer from the cremation:
Cremation will hardly have any ill effects on a spirit that immediately moves on to the third or fourth sphere when he leaves the earth, but even though these spirits are no longer attached to their body, they will feel that something is missing when they arrive in their sphere, and this will trouble them.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
Suffering during the cremation is due to being attached to the body and to the material life.
During a contact evening, Jozef Rulof reads out the question from a member of the audience asking whether we can see that being attached to the body from the pink cheeks:
I have here: ‘‘A View into the Hereafter, part II’, page 141, it concerns the consequences of cremation there.
‘Those who pass over and who still have pink cheeks, which people can see so often,’ ... and that is true, ‘ ... find themselves in that terrible situation.
The material has been abandoned by the life,’ or the life is free from the material, ‘the spirit body has freed itself from the material garment, and the life aura keeps the discarded garment alive.’
Question: ‘This keeping the discarded garment alive for a long time, does that point to a certain mentality, for example, to a being tied to earth?’
Questions and Answers Part 4, 1952
Jozef confirms that after the physical death the soul can still feed the physical tissue through her life aura:
Madam, those people, that personality is still attached to that body.
So, that body still cannot die normally, and is still fed by the life, the spirit, because no separation has come yet.
Because an absolute dying ...
But you can also have that, not every body passes immediately into dying.
A seriously ill patient, for example, a body which has suffered a lot, passed immediately into rotting.
And that is the dying off.
And you also have situations where people, bodies, only die off after two, three days, four days, the coffin is already in the grave.
You do not even see that anymore.
But you still see that ...
You can then say ...
You sometimes hear that: ‘It is as if they are sleeping.’
And that is the sleeping, that is the aura which still feeds the tissue, because there is still unity.
Because the spirit, the life of feeling, the personality is still not free from the material.
Questions and Answers Part 4, 1952
That being attached to the body and feeding from the 'pink cheeks' can even take four weeks:
Yes, if you have had a difficult, terrible life – that does not even need to be so terrible – but then you are not free just like that.
Because then that state still holds me.
I just lived it up, and did all those other things, lied and cheated, and hated, and all those other things, that is already the life of feeling and the personality.
But if we touch the body, we touch other laws, then I will not be free of that body at once.
Even if I have to go back to the earth, that state, that dying there, will still hold me for a while.
It can even be two, three, four weeks.
And then I will also already go into the grave; even if I do not experience the rotting then, because if you experience the rotting, then you are completely in that.
But now you are out of that.
You stand next to that, and you can already go where you want.
Yes, you will feel, you are sucked back, something pulls you back.
And that is still the state, the being one with that body.
And this is why you see, if someone dies, then you also sometimes see those pink cheeks.
And then it is always, usually suspicious.
Questions and Answers Part 4, 1952
The personality experiences the dying according to the own consciousness:
There are thousands of people who are afraid of death, and thousands, just say, almost, here in the city ...
Oh well, who knows something about the life, who surrenders.
But we also have people here under me, and they are still walking everywhere, who read books, and they are still afraid of that death.
Because they still do not know all the things which happen.
Because that is purely the world of feeling, the consciousness of the human being which dies, which experiences the dying.
You do not experience the dying according to the body.
Isn’t that nice?
But you experience the dying.
That body goes of its own accord.
But you are the one who dies, and not the body.
That had to ... something else for the world.
‘The human being dies’, people say, yes.
Yes, then they think of the corpse.
They think of that material being, but science and mankind actually still know nothing abut that spiritual dying.
What do people here in Europe know about spiritually dying?
Isn’t it true?
Nothing.
Questions and Answers Part 4, 1952
Spiritual dying is referred to as 'the second death' in the next quotation.
This is the being released from the material in feeling.
The 'first death' is then the shutting down of the earthly body.
It is not because the body is dying that people have also already taken leave of that body in feeling.
That taking leave and allowing all the material to die spiritually can take much more time than the first death:
But the body dies.
But that does not die, sir.
Yes, rotting, of course.
But we are not talking about that.
The actual dying process, we are that ourselves.
And now you die spiritually.
And spiritually dying, sir ...
They laugh at me!
And how simple it is.
The body goes down, goes into the grave; from material to material.
But we ...
That lady comes there with the question: why do those people, that corpse, still have colours?
That is, I say, because there is still being one with the spirit.
So the spirit is busy freeing itself.
Freeing itself if the dying for the spirit, the releasing from the material.
(Gentleman in the hall): ‘The second death.’
And they call that the Grim Reaper.
(Gentleman in the hall): ‘The second death.’
The second death.
Questions and Answers Part 4, 1952
Jozef compares the second death to the spiritual dying of feelings for a loved one by whom the person has been beaten and kicked for a long time:
But now you also have spiritual dying off on the other side.
That is also there.
A human being has love.
I will explain it to you at once, how wonderful, clear and natural that is.
There are people, you have, for example – you hear that in society – you have someone whom you love a great deal, and he pulls your leg (cheats you), he hits and kicks; then those feelings start to die.
That is pure dying.
Questions and Answers Part 4, 1952
Then the love for a human being dies and the feeling withdraws:
And you all feel that, and that is now, I can also tell you, cosmic again, that is the spiritual death of something.
Of something.
And then you also get the spiritual dying with regard to the body, madam, and then those colours go down.
And then the spirit withdraws itself.
And then it is purely materially and spiritually dying; killing.
Questions and Answers Part 4, 1952
It is only after the spiritual death, the actual release from the earthly body by the life of feeling of the soul that the colours in the body decrease.
However, many people do not reach the spiritual death quickly.
They are in the spiritual life after death, but they think that they still have their earthly body, and they stand there combing their spiritual hair:
There are also some, they then stand in front of a mirror, they are still standing combing their hair.
And there is a man, who also asks: ‘Do you have a bit of tobacco for me?’
He also still had his pipe in his pocket.
That is not much cop.
That is not a great consciousness, because they are attached to the tobacco, and they hold onto this, and this, and that, and the whole world, madam.
And if you experience that on earth, and those people die, and all those thousands of longings, madam, because of which they are still attached to the earth, to that material body and life, all of that causes those colours.
Questions and Answers Part 4, 1952
Thousands of longings connect the human being to the material.
This is called the material thinking and feeling.
Each thought that is attuned to the body is material.
Even reading this article is being materially occupied, because these words are material.
The inhabitant of the fourth sphere of light who is completely free from the material no longer thinks in words and no longer uses language for him/herself, because this would draw him/her back to the earth, to the material.
The masters perceived that not a single human being of the earth passes on directly to the higher sphere of light in which all the material has been released.
This means that not a single human being of the earth can experience a cremation without suffering from this.
For our spiritual evolution, we must let go of the will to collect a great deal of material.
The will to enrich oneself materially and to hold onto the material must be converted into the will to enrich oneself spiritually.
This is why master Alcar can say that we must lose our will to be focused on the material:
Verily, lose your will in matter and look up.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936

Dealing with it

André must deal with what he has seen:
André was in a sad mood.
It was a terrible form of torture.
He had seen how the poor man was unable to free himself when he tried to get away.
His body had to be entirely burnt before the fluid cord would break.
He had seen both bodies; the one felt nothing, whereas the other was all sensitivity, and he had seen how these bodies writhed around each other, matter and spirit, down there in that horrible oven.
‘You’re right, Alcar.
This is not a house of peace, it’s a house of grief.’
‘Nobody thinks about that on earth, André.
The spiritual body must not only behold how its physical carriage is burnt, it must also undergo the pain and the grief which is caused by the incineration.
This isn’t fantasy, it’s sad reality, a reality which is entirely due to a lack of spiritual feeling.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
He nevertheless remained sad, and kept on thinking about Alcar, because he couldn’t get over the impressions he had undergone during his last journey.
Alcar told him to have a little patience, and if his gloominess didn’t ease off, he would soon take him along again to the higher regions.
And it certainly didn’t, because it wasn’t easy to deal with the sufferings of all those unhappy people.
Now and then he would brighten up a bit and seemed to have mastered the situation, but afterwards a reaction would set in, which made him fall back into an even gloomier mood.
It was all a tremendous burden to him.
He had to handle it on his own, and nobody could help him.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
André does not have an easy time dealing with his intense experiences:
On the morning before he left together with Alcar, he had been going around the house singing, but later when he came downstairs he had a feeling as if heavy thunderstorms were gathered overhead.
Yet he wanted to be strong and not bother Alcar too much.
He prayed intensely to God for help.
It made things easier for him.
Oh, that poor man!
He couldn’t forget him.
He kept on seeing that dead body in his mind’s eye. It had appeared to come alive again in that terrible heat.
No, he never wanted to see anything like that again.
It had kept him awake the first few nights, and he needed rest to be able to do his work during the day.
When his thoughts ran wild and prevented him from falling asleep, Alcar would step in and put him into a semi-trance.
He was very aware of this.
Alcar would withdraw quietly and he would fall asleep.
It wasn't the usual kind of sleep, he could tell by his head in the morning.
Many days passed by.
He plucked up courage because he knew he had to weather it.
He knew that it would mean a big step forward in his development if his spirit could stand up to all this.
He also knew that everything has its price, wisdom too.
It’s all a question of will power.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
And André also gets to experience everything at the same time:
One evening Alcar informed him that at night they would be travelling to the higher spheres again.
‘We’ll have to move our journey forward a bit, André, because you’re unable to break away from the things you saw.
True enough, you had a trying journey.
All the same, you’ve got enough strength to bear it.
Get yourself ready, we’ll be back in the spheres again tonight.’
Alcar had told him that he would take him along to see the heavy traffic between the earth and Summerland, and André was curious what it would be like.
He was still in a downcast mood when went to his room early.
He pottered around a bit first, and he was surprised that he felt no longing at that time to disembody.
His room was full of spiritual pieces of work that he had received from Alcar and the other painters.
It had taken him quite a lot of struggle and will power to get that far.
One has to persevere and be prepared to put up with quite a bit to achieve a certain thing.
People only saw the results and not the struggle and the sorrow it had all cost him.
He had been scoffed at and ridiculed and even after he had got well underway, they had still poked fun at him.
Yet he had decorated the walls with lots of pieces from Alcar.
He slowly felt the sacred impact from the side beyond coming over him.
His head got heavy and so he quickly undressed.
Alcar had told him that when he wanted to disembody during the night, he should lie on his back before he went to sleep, it would make it easier to set him free.
So that’s what he did.
It was only half past nine.
But he turned off the light and after about ten minutes he was sleeping like a log.
‘All right, my son’, were the first words he heard, and immediately afterwards he saw his leader. With a cry of joy he threw his arms around his neck.
‘Steady, André, we are one again now.
The last few days have been tough for you, there was such a lot you had to cope with.
In my presence you’ll soon calm down again.
On our side we’re more capable of bearing such sorrow. It’s hard for an earthbound spirit.
You notice how careful we must be.
If I were to give you everything that can be experienced during such a journey in one go, how do you think that would make you feel!
You would not be able to stand it.
Come on, my boy, look me in the eye.’
With tears in his eyes André smiled at his leader.
He sensed Alcar’s enormous strength and he saw that great white light around him again.
‘You felt no longing to disembody, but that was all my doing André.
All right, we can leave now.
It’s marvellous that God let us build this link.
You can see how every bit of hard work finds support and nurture in the spheres.
Those who seriously strive and who have the courage to fight will become wiser and can learn as much as they want.
This goes for every human being on earth.
Now you will soon be freed from your melancholy.’
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
Alcar advises choosing burial to be on the safe side:
Ask anyone who lives here what cremation is like, they will all tell you that it ought to be discouraged.
It’s nothing but a torment.
A torture in the spirit.
I therefore advise those who intend to be cremated not to do so.
Think this over and rather be safe than sorry: choose to be buried.
Those on earth who are learned and believe cremation to be beautiful and clean bear darkness in their soul, because this ‘beauty and cleanliness’ entails material darkness on this side.
To man on earth I call out: ‘If you have followed everything so far, then put an end to your foolhardiness and try to develop yourself in the spirit.
There’s still time.
You will soon pass on and then only those things will be of value which you bear within.
Develop your feeling and make up for the wrong you did.
We who dwell on this side, all of us who have left the earth and have dwelt here for hundreds of years, were compelled to accept this truth.
We have learnt that love is the highest and the most sacred of all, and that they stand for light and happiness in the life after death.
Here, my friends, you cannot hide.
Only here does love bear value.
Develop that power, your life, learn to love.
Learn our language, the language of love, which you will have to understand on your arrival here, or darkness will be your fate.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936

Long-term consequences of cremation

During a next out-of-body experience Alcar shows André in what state the conductor has ended up due to his choice for cremation:
‘I’m very curious Alcar, where he will be.
Is he living in the Land of Hatred?’
‘We will soon see, come on now, we must go this way.
I can see it now, he’s in an intermediary sphere, beyond the crowd.
We will find him back in an unconscious state, due to the burning of his physical garment.’
André saw how his leader was following a set target.
It was remarkable to him how a spirit could find its bearings.
Everywhere Alcar could find his way about in this darkness.
They entered some place, it seemed like a cavern.
These were subterranean corridors, and yet he was able to see.
There were scores of creatures about.
They passed through lots of corridors and caves.
In the darkness he discerned others who had fallen asleep; they were lying there, expressionless.
He saw these creatures everywhere; they slept the sleep of the dead and were alive, living in eternity.
Everything was misery, nothing but grief and sorrow.
These were wasted lives.
To the right and the left he saw coves where they had been laid down to rest.
From the earth into this darkness.
Oh, he understood everything.
And yet they hadn’t fallen as deep as those in the Valley of Sorrows.
He understood every attunement and knew the conditions of feeling of all these various beings.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
Now his leader stopped.
Had he found him?
He was very curious.
‘Look, André, there’s our man, we’ve found him.’
André saw a creature, lying separated from the others, huddled up.
‘Do you recognize him, André?’
Yes, it was him, the man he had seen burning on earth.
‘He’s in an unconscious state.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
By means of his concentration, Alcar gets the conductor out of his deep sleep for a moment in order to make it clear to André in what state the conductor will later awaken:
André saw how his leader focussed his concentration.
He sensed how he was linking up in order to make the unfortunate fellow return to consciousness.
After a few moments he gave some sign of life.
Did he hear correctly?
It was just as if he heard him crying.
Yes, he was moaning.
Poor fellow.
Alcar withdrew his powers from him and the moaning stopped immediately.
‘I suppose everything is clear to you, André?
I made him become aware, so he began to feel his condition.
At the moment his sleep is still deep.
His present awakening will only be the start of his life on this side, and he will begin to feel the pains which were brought on by the cremation.
Apart from the agonies due to the cold and the darkness, he will also feel the piercing pains inflicted by his cremation.
His body was burnt during a material condition of feeling, his attunement to matter.
Spiritually he disgraced himself during his life on earth.
They don’t want to accept this on earth.
The sensitivity of his spiritual body was attuned to matter.
He will therefore experience everything in the spirit too, because he was not set free from his body.
The cremation drove him into this condition because the shock was too great for his spiritual attunement.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
People do not know the shock of cremation on earth.
On the other hand, the possibility that the deceased is attached to his body has already been recorded by some cultures.
For instance, the hindu view that the soul is freed from being attached to the body as a result of the cremation.
As a result, most people in India choose cremation.
They think that their soul is then free to go to the hereafter.
Indeed, the soul is then free from the body, but the shock of the cremation is dreadful:
Cremation, on the other hand, goes too fast.
You will certainly already feel it: souls are attached to the human body and burn.
That shock is dreadful!
They are separate, of course, the burning process rips the soul and body apart.
But the soul is not conscious.
It feels material, earthly.
It therefore walks round with that shock, wherever it goes, it will only be released from that state when it possesses another life or possesses such a spiritual height, that it has conquered itself.
Millions of people, Karel, suffer that they scream from it as a result of the astral laws!”
Masks and Men, 1948
During a contact evening, Jozef Rulof explains how that shock comes about.
The cremation of the body allows the physical aura to be released quickly.
If the body is not cremated but buried, that life aura is released slowly as the body decomposes and the material cells dissolve.
This process can take many months, as a result of which the personality is given the time to draw the life aura as power of feeling into itself and therefore build up the spiritual consciousness.
However, if the earthly body is cremated, that time is too short for the personality, which experiences a spiritual shock as a result.
A similar process takes place in the case of a fatal accident during which the body burns, for example in a burning car.
The difference with a cremation is that the human being did not want his body to be burned during a fatal accident, and as a result is not attached spiritually to the burning.
However, because the body burns, the personality does indeed experience the spiritual shock of the sudden release from the physical aura:
The human being, who experiences a fatal accident, experiences a spiritual shock.
Now a process is completed for the life aura, namely the taking on of the physical aura, which otherwise takes months, in only a few minutes and this means for inner life and the personality, the shock, and the personality has to deal with this!
Questions and Answers Part 1, 1950
When the earthly body is buried, a material personality such as the conductor from 'A View into the Hereafter' experiences the withdrawal of the life aura as the material body decomposes.
The decomposing of the material allows the physical aura to be released as a result of which the personality can draw that aura.
Since the conductor cannot withdraw his feeling from the material independently but remains attuned to the material with all of his life of feeling, he is dependent on the natural decomposition process of the earthly body in order to get his life aura back.
On the other hand, people who already develop spiritual feelings and thoughts themselves, already think more independently of the body, and are therefore not so dependent on the physical decomposition process.
The more freely they feel and think from the material, the less time they need to withdraw all their feeling from the earthly life and to start their new spiritual life.
The conductor therefore was attached to the time span of the material decomposition process, but this state is a much better choice than cremation:
If he had been buried in the usual way he would now experience the decay of his material garment.
But that condition is much to be preferred to cremation because certain powers, which we call the aura of life, are withdrawn from the person being burnt.
This aura is meant to support the spirit upon its arrival here and during the first period of his life.
This applies to all beings, even those who are in a higher attunement.
After five to seven days the parting spirit withdraws the aura of life from the material body, at a time when matter enters into the first stage of decomposition.
This may last longer, it depends on the attunement of the human being passing on.
In other words: the aura serves to gain awareness on this side.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
If the earthly personality is attuned lower, being attached to the earthly body can take a very long time:
Another thing: On earth people think that it’s better to burn for an hour and a half than to experience years of torture (see article ‘Cremation or burial’ on rulof.org).
Because, they reason, didn’t the spirit get released?
Yet many cannot sever their ties, and to them burning is a spiritual shock.
The one who is now lying there, like a living corpse, has experienced that shock.
They err when they sense a spiritual condition as if it were material. Of course this is wrong.
Those who pass on and still show rosy cheeks, which can often be observed, are in this terrible condition.
Matter has been abandoned by life, in other words: the spiritual body has cast off the material garment and the aura of life keeps that garment alive.
Not until the first stage of decay has set in will matter take on a deathly pallor.
At that moment it’s all over and the spirit has taken on its new form of existence.
So the aura of life keeps the body intact, and when matter is burnt this will cause a tremendous shock.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
The life aura is only completely released in the seventh grade of decomposition of the material body:
What do you actually destroy as a result of cremation?
Which life juices do you deny the spirit?
Or do you think, when you go into the ground – so have died here – that the spirit has nothing more to do with the organism?
Listen, then I will explain these laws to you and you can accept them.
It is the Divine truth, I have seen those people and was able to experience the laws.
We as people absorb the coarse-material life aura of the organism and that is the material, which serves us on the other side in order to give us the ground under our feet, otherwise we would sink away and we would have no more existence.
We only get that material completely – it is therefore an aura – when the organism has reached the seventh grade of decay, then we absorb that aura and this already starts when we have left the organism.
Can you still do that if you have been cremated?
No, as a result of one law, now burning, the human being denies himself, the human being destroys, his continuing existence, the source of life and existence, he destroys spiritual foundations, which he now lacks and as a result of this he wanders round like a soap bubble, does not have any ground under his feet.
And this happens as a result of cremation!
In this way every human being has to experience his own laws, but for his evolution, his Divine attunement.
What does the academic know, the human being, about the Other Side, the soul, the emotional life of the human being?
Nothing!
But why does he want to do something for the soul, if he does not understand it, deforms it, lets it go to seed, abuses it, burns it alive?
Because that is what it is, isn’t it?’
Questions and Answers Part 1, 1950
The spiritual life aura is not destroyed by the material burning, but the aura will be released much more quickly than the personality can draw and process that:
(Gentleman in the hall): ‘Master Zelanus, I would like to come back to cremation, by means of which the aura is destroyed. What happens to those peoples where the people are cremated without exception?’
The aura is not destroyed.
(Gentleman in the hall): ‘Oh, I thought that you had said that the last time.’
Yes, the physical aura dissolves, but it is not destroyed.
It is the shock which you experience.
(Gentleman in the hall): ‘So all those peoples, where they are all cremated for their religion ...’
They do not know any better.
(Gentleman in the hall): ‘And those who are also burned because of an accident ...’
Yes, all the same thing.
Look, you lack the physical aura in that world, because this happens with a shock.
You get, you suck that back later.
But that aura does not dissolve, in the sense that it cannot be used for the spirit.
Now everything goes too fast.
Can you feel this?
And now you must experience that ‘beyond the coffin’.
Read ‘A View into the Hereafter.’
Questions and Answers Part 6, 1951
Since the personality cannot draw that aura upon release, that aura is ripped apart, pulverized, flung away:
And all the things which happen like that, you can perhaps not know that, but you have lost your cosmic material, your plasma, for that world, you walk, you suddenly let everything go to pot, that is ripped apart, that pulverizes, you have no ground under your feet, and that is all connected to this.
Questions and Answers Part 4, 1952
The aura is needed for building up the spiritual body:
After all, you do not know the laws, for ‘beyond the coffin’, for your body.
What is your state like?
Which aura do you absorb?
So that aura cannot be destroyed, you get that gradually, but you experience that shock spiritually, consciously or unconsciously, that means, the first sphere, or a lower state, you experience that.
And you need that aura of that organism, because the spiritual body builds itself up by means of that.
But you have lower organs here for the organism, and that lower aura serves again for fundamental feeling, power, energy; you need that.
Questions and Answers Part 6, 1951
For the harmonic beginning of the new spiritual life, a great deal of aura is needed:
This is growing again, dying is growing towards: a new life.
And then the spirit needs, the personality needs the aura of the body in the coffin.
A great many auras, seven different auras.
Questions and Answers Part 6, 1951
The personality cannot even draw all that released aura because the life aura must be completely experienced as feeling.
It is only after the 'evolving experience' of that aura that the personality can say: that aura is mine, that has become my conscious feeling, with this I will build up my spiritual consciousness.
Experiencing and processing that life aura in feeling takes time.
The personality cannot even do that, nor can people from the lowest class suddenly act like a professor:
Now cremation, thousands, millions of problems.
The human being is cremated, now you should look into the darkness, not into the hells, but the human being lives between the Land of Twilight of the first sphere and the hells, the dark, the deep hatred, the deep conscious hatred and misery, you see millions of people walking there, all cremated people.
Can you feel this?
They no longer have a body.
Because of your rotting process as a corpse, the normal disintegration, you experience seven transitions of aura, that is the bottom on which you will soon stand in the spheres.
Be cremated, then you will not have any bottom, any ground, nothing, you will float, you will hang, you cannot stand.
They hang like that in space, they no longer have a bottom, that aura has been burned, dissolved, gone, they did not get time to develop that.
Can you from the lowest class suddenly act the professor?
Then you must first get the understanding, get the feeling in order to act like Paganini.
That is feeling, and you must build up that feeling, you will experience that, experience that evolving.
And it is only then that you can say: ‘That aura is mine.’
Those are laws.
Questions and Answers Part 5, 1950
A member of the public at a contact evening wants to know what happens if a suicide is cremated.
The spiritual consequences of suicide without cremation are explained in the article 'euthanasia and suicide'.
Jozef explains why cremation is much worse than being buried after a suicide.
The person who wants to be cremated is attached to the burning of his organism as a result of his will.
Jozef explains how that being attached can be understood in feeling:
If a suicide is cremated, which can happen as a result of a ‘request in a will’, can’t it, the organism is burned, but the soul is now attached to his fire.
If you do not understand this, then this can be explained, when, for example, you follow a murderer, who suffers as a result of his ‘remorse’, so terribly that his spirit cannot deal with those sorrows and yet continues to belong to life.
That man walks round with his misery, he cannot free himself from it, that human being experiences it.
We remain ‘behind the coffin’ as we are here, in other words, nothing has changed on our inner self.
The fire now brought about by cremation is dreadful.
You are spiritually burnt and that cannot be cured, the human being must cure that himself, by beginning a new life and of course making good all his faults.
Questions and Answers Part 1, 1950
For a human being who is attuned to the darkness the fire only lessens when the whole personality has entered the light:
The misery which you impose upon yourself by cremation cannot be described in writing.
You would first have to be able to see this sinister scene for yourself, only then would it get through to you that you mock soul, spirit and life, and do not yet know the universal laws.
Only when cremation has carried out its material destruction, does the soul become free from its body, but it drags that burning destruction along with it, it is like a burning torch and remains alive.
For the time being there will be no end to this situation, because you as a person are attuned to the darkness; there is no love and therefore no light either in your life, you feel material and the world in which you live also possesses that same attunement, which is your life of feeling!
Only then when you awaken inwardly, that is to say change, will your situation change.
But we now know how difficult it is to bring a trivial character trait to the spiritual, so what is needed for the whole personality?
You must conquer it, only then will those pains lessen, will that fire dissolve, you will burst inside and outside, your life blood will no longer be there, you have sullied laws, misformed them, the lovely cremation denied you everything!
Jeus sees that, he is conscious, and hears that the person is moaning, screaming as if he is being skinned alive, which makes him want to cry, it is so terrible.
Of course, we will do everything to help these children, but we are powerless, because they have to accept that dark atmosphere attunement, and we cannot do a thing about it now.
Master Alcar, under the orders of his masters, found this absolutely necessary in order to bring the millions of people of the earth to spatial analysis, so that your horrific cremation will disappear!
Jeus of Mother Crisje Part 3, 1952
Being attached in feeling to the burning can be compared with being attached in feeling to a physical disease.
When the sick person passes on to the hereafter, the material disease remains on earth.
The human being who thinks and feels spiritually lets go of that physical disease when passing on, and no longer suffers from that earthly state in the spiritual world.
That human being can let go of that disease in a millionth of a second, because that earthly disease is no longer part of his new spiritual state.
(Lady in the hall): ‘Those people who passed over from serious diseases, can they quickly release themselves from that?’
You are released from that within ten seconds, in a millionth of a second, if you have the consciousness, of course.
Questions and Answers Part 6, 1951
However, many people cannot let go of their physical disease just like that upon dying, nor all their other earthly feeling and thinking.
In the hereafter, they still feel and think exactly the same as they did on earth.
On earth they felt sick, and in their hereafter they continue to feel sick in the first instance.
They retain their earthly personality, and as a result they still do not feel completely that their new spiritual world is very different to life on earth.
They still do not realize that they can be released from their earthly disease within a second, if they can feel that they no longer have an earthly body.
However, they still live in feeling for a part on earth, they have still not fully accepted the spiritual spheres and the spiritual reality:
If you live under the sphere, under the reality, you will feel ...
If you have that reality in you, then you are free; and if you are under that reality, then you still continue to walk round for thousands of years with that same disease on the other side.
You still have your pains.
If you have had those and those troubles, then you also have those pains.
Why?
Because your personality is not any different.
Can you feel this?
Questions and Answers Part 6, 1951
In the case of cremation too, such a process can take place.
The human being who still does not feel and think completely spiritually, continues to walk round with that fire until the complete personality lives in the spiritual reality.
This only happens in the fourth sphere of light, which is also called the first spiritual sphere, because the human being has let go of all the material feelings and thoughts there.
As long as people still live under the spiritual reality of the fourth sphere of light, they continue to walk for a part in the unreality of the fire experienced:
That is exactly the same as the cremation, just let yourself be burnt.
You walk round with that fire.
And then the human being says: but we are free from the organism.
But, your spirit is unconscious.
You do not know and feel the reality, so you experience that unreality consciously, you are not any different.
Questions and Answers Part 6, 1951
Taking the whole personality to the reality and the light of the fourth sphere of light can take a very long time:
Gradually the scars disappear, received as a result of cremation, but before he is freed from it, five hundred years have passed by and it takes longer before the human being is back again to the harmonic laws of God.
Can you feel this?’
Questions and Answers Part 1, 1950
Ultimately, the fire will dissolve when the personality is able to expand:
Now the cremation must dissolve.
How?
Only by means of the word.
Because he is now starting to understand, because we now elevate him into the universal truth for space, for everything, for a sphere, for fatherhood and motherhood, that fire dissolves, he gets expansion.
Because he is narrow-minded, because he accepts that damnation, he is also attached to that burning process.
And when we are that far, we will begin with the spiritual systems.
Then we will take him to the Temple of the Mother, the Temple of Space.
Because space is mother and says: “Just lie down here, I will soon come back to you.”
Weeks, months, for others years and years, pass before the life moves, before the life relaxes again, before the thought experiences an action, thinking ... thinking: who am I?
I live in a space; I am now ‘beyond the coffin’.
That body means nothing more, for you have lost it.
Everything that you did there belongs to you, because it is you!
Every deed is now a footstep, is a foundation, is the ground.
You condensed that bottom!
Because the human being who forgets himself, the human being who just lives it up, has no bottom in our world.
You must condense that bottom, that ground, yourself by means of the deeds.
Lectures Part 1, 1950
Since, after a cremation, the human being has less feeling and consciousness to perform illuminating acts and thus condense the spiritual ground, the spiritual construction takes much longer than if the body of that human being had been buried in a natural way.
As a result, it can take hundreds of years before the fire has been conquered inwardly, and the spiritual evolution can be continued.
However, ultimately that fire dissolves, the spiritual shock has been processed, and the soul has control again of her own spiritual continued existence.
Nothing can stop the evolution of the soul, the consequences of cremation are also only temporary.
The life of the soul is universally immense.
Ultimately the soul develops further, she absorbs everything that she experiences with love and wisdom:
Then you walk on astral plasma, until you are in the Divine and then you experience the Divine plasma.
And then your temple is Divine; your thoughts are Divine.
Your life is spatially immense.
You receive everything which comes to you by means of love, by means of a good word.
Now there is wisdom.
Lectures Part 1, 1950
The human being who leaves the earthly life can either go to the hereafter, or reincarnate on earth.
Before he reincarnates, he goes to the world of the unconscious to process everything from the previous life and to let it sink into the depth of the soul life.
During a contact evening, a member of the public asks Jozef whether the consequences of cremation can dissolve by the descension of the soul into the world of the unconscious:
Question: ‘But cremation dissolves everything, doesn’t it?
And if the human being must immediately return to the earth, then what?
Is the soul not free from that fire then?
Then the soul descends into the world of the unconscious, doesn’t it?’
Jozef says: ‘You can think, sir, my compliments.
But it is not like that either.
You have read and that is what concerns you, when you must return to the earth, the human being dissolves in the world of the unconscious, that is reincarnation.
And then you would be free from that fire?
But, have you read the book ‘The Cycle of the Soul’, sir?
Did you not read that Lantos Dumonché was attached to his body and then had to wait until his normal life would have ended?
Do you have that?
Well, the suicide, who is burned free as a result of cremation, walks around with those burn marks until the time, the normal, Divine harmonic time for his evolution takes him back to the earth again and then he can begin a new life.’
Thon also asks: ‘And does that take so long?’
Jozef replies: ‘Understand well, sir, we people, that is what it concerns now, have kicked ourselves out of the harmonic laws of God.
We did that ourselves.
The human being now, who is in harmony, goes before us.
Those people receive their new organism earlier and this is understandable.
As a result of this the disharmonic human being can wait, wait for a long time.
Yet he will get an organism one day and he will be drawn again by man and woman of the earth and then a new life will begin.’
Questions and Answers Part 1, 1950
In the biography of Jozef Rulof 'Jeus of Mother Crisje', master Zelanus explains that we ourselves are in control of being attached to our organism or not:
Master Alcar will now explain spiritual laws to him for cremation, and afterwards the hells and the heavens.
Do you know his first book: ‘A View into the Hereafter’?
For Jeus as well, that was really a view into other, namely spiritual worlds.
His master will now connect him to cremation, because that cursed cremation has to disappear from the earth!
As André, Jeus experiences that horrible situation, Master Alcar follows a person who, during his life, decided to be cremated, but the laws of which he does not know.
Jeus now sees that this person is painfully aware of his misery, because this personality is attached to the body, since he has forgotten himself during the earthly life.
Now the body goes into the oven, the personality is conscious and experiences that, it is the most horrific thing which we know.
Both this event and suicide are the worst things, which you can subject yourself to, and we come to warn you through Jeus of mother Crisje!
By following the dark life on earth, the soul as a spiritual personality is attached to the body, and these are the laws for us and your spiritual existence.
That is in your own hands!
After all, a person who searches for good things, loves, possesses another sensation and feels free of his body after death, but in spite of that happiness, cremation is also both material and spiritual destruction for him.
Jeus now gets to know all of that and will soon pass it onto your life.
Jeus of Mother Crisje Part 3, 1952

Last will and testament

Master Alcar says about the conductor in 'A View into the Hereafter' that he would have drawn up his last will and testament differently if, during his earthly life he had known the spiritual consequences of cremation.
In the Western world, the last will and testament is usually looked at in order to determine what will happen to the material body.
If this person had been aware of a life after his life on earth, he would have decreed in his last will that his mortal remains be confided to the bowels of the earth, in keeping with God’s eternal laws.
According to these eternal laws man is born out of dust and he will return unto dust. However, this was not meant to be done violently but slowly, gradually, in a natural way.
In a little while you will see why it’s necessary to bury the material garment in the usual manner.
This poor unfortunate man wished to be incinerated after his death, and now this wish will be fulfilled.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
When it was too late, the conductor got to know the consequences of his last will and testament.
During a contact evening, a woman in the audience remarked that he had wanted that himself anyway:
That is cremation.
(Lady in the hall): ‘... they wanted that themselves ...’
What did you say?
(Lady in the hall): ‘... they wanted that themselves anyway, they decided that themselves.’
Yes, ‘I wanted it’; but if you then do not know what that law is like.
Someone wanted to become a boxer.
And then someone says: ‘Come on, I will teach you it’, and then he began and then they already beat him so that he went blind in one eye.
And then he says: ‘But I did not want that.’
Then the other one says: ‘Then you should not have boxed.’
And there are thousands of examples in life.
Someone wanted to learn languages, he took on sixteen of them.
Then that mother says: ‘If only he was a baker.’
The seventeenth took him to Rosenburg (psychiatric institution in The Hague).
And he is still there now.
That lady came to me: ‘Can you do something for him?’
I say: ‘No, madam’, that one was just too much.
Sixteen languages.
What do you want to do with sixteen languages?
It is megalomania.
Learn to love, madam.
Learn to be in harmony with the infinite and with this place.
We talk about that in that book. Are you lazy, are you dirty, are you filthy, are you idle, are you bungling, messing up, wasteful?
Madam, then first lay those foundations for that other, and make sure that you come into harmony with your house, your husband, your children, those will then be the spiritual foundations for going upwards.
Questions and Answers Part 3, 1952
Jozef indicates how important our decision is:
It is only then that the human being experiences his laws consciously, when the personality also wants to experience those laws as the ‘own will’ and he can, this is clear after all, no longer be released from himself, that is his thinking and feeling and his decision!
Questions and Answers Part 1, 1950
For ourselves and our children:
I will continue with the question by L. v. Ettingen-Bernhard: ‘If children from four to fourteen years old are cremated after their passing on, will this then be an obstruction for their continuing on the other side?
The parents have decided in this and the children cannot do anything about that, can they?
Can you answer this?’
Jozef says: ‘Listen carefully, in the first place this: few children are cremated and that is just as well!
No, the child does not suffer as a result of cremation.
The more consciousness we possess for wrong thoughts and lovelessness, the more this has significance for cremation.
Therefore the more we represent the darkness, the more cremation can hit us and we will walk round with that law; I already explained this completely.
You can read about this in the books ‘A View into the Hereafter’.
The child therefore does not possess the consciousness of the adult being with all his evil.
As a result of this, this must be clear to you, cremation has no hold over that life, because the emotional life has disengaged itself for all that misery.
You can understand this.
There are no children from four to fourteen years old living in the hells, that is not possible!
You will also read this once more in those same books and there you will get a wonderful picture of your own emotional life and your consciousness, but also of that of the child!
There are crazy parents, who cannot distance themselves from their child and now want to keep the ‘ash’ of that little life.
The Other Side and the laws say: Do not be so gloomy, give that life back to God and his laws.
Did Christ not say: You will return to dust?
Or do we wish to know better than him?
No, a thousand times no, people of the earth.
You cannot destroy the child by your self-love and that is just as well, or all those little ones would also have to accept and experience the suffering and the sorrow because of the fathers and mothers, the mites then, the poor, who cannot and do not want to surrender anything, who want to keep everything, which is from God!
Harsh perhaps?
You keep hearing it, the human being is still so poor in spirit.
No, the little ones have nothing to do with cremation, only the adult being.
But as a result of cremation the child has also lost something and those good, loving parents do that.’
Questions and Answers Part 1, 1950
“Decide now where you will stay after this life...”:
Jozef also says: ‘Anyone who possesses love, men and women, cannot experience any misery, even if you are suddenly torn from the body, your attunement will of course receive you, you have laid foundations for your inner life and no law nor human being can deny you that!
That is your possession for life ‘behind the coffin’!
But we were talking about hells and heavens, about good and evil, passion and violence and also about being in harmony with the laws of God, weren’t we?
Now decide for yourself what you will now experience, you can do it, as a result of the books ‘A View into the Hereafter’; it is there that you can experience your own attunement.
You can now determine your sphere as a result of those books.
Can’t you, ladies and gentlemen?
Are you free from hatred, deception, lies, snapping and snarling?
Do you not possess any foundations for your spiritual life, as a result of which we are faced with our ‘dictionary’ again and must possess all of it for the good, the harmonic laws of God?
Well, is our friendship spiritually responsible?
Do we have love in us?
Attunement to the Spheres of Light?
Did we not talk about that, when we treated those laws together?
Decide now, where you will stay after this life, where you have attunement to and you will know then, where you are going and what must be cleared up for our spirit, our emotional life and the personality.
Just understand it, you are universally deep, the human being is wonderful, because the human being is a Deity!
If there are still inferiority complexes in you, then I hope that you are now capable of throwing them overboard, of embellishing them as a result of this knowledge.
All of you can now make progress, now that you know that you have to represent God in everything!’
Questions and Answers Part 1, 1950

Why is this not known?

Why are the spiritual consequences of cremation known so little on earth?
Much of our knowledge comes from the experiences of ourselves and our fellow human being.
This way of gathering knowledge cannot help us with this.
Many people rely on the earthly science as a source of knowledge.
That science focuses on what can be perceived by our material senses or by technical instruments.
This is a spiritual science which maps out material paths.
Master Alcar indicates that we do not need to expect any knowledge about spiritual truths from this source:
People relied on science, but this has been stripped of all spiritual power.
That’s the situation spiritual truth is in on earth.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
Another source of knowledge is what we are given by clairvoyants.
Master Alcar also indicates that the clairvoyants who have not disembodied have difficulty holding onto the moment of cremation.
“All this misery is hidden to the world”:
Only one in thousands has the gift to see like you, and to witness an event like this.
Clairvoyants, who are not disembodied, need to concentrate intensely in order to grasp the moment when a person is being burnt.
Yet their leaders can help them to experience this.
In such a case they will not only be able to see the cremation, for if they are clairaudient they will also hear the tortured person moaning and screaming with pain and fear.
All this misery is hidden to the world.
A View into the Hereafter, 1936
Since many clairvoyants cannot see the spiritual consequences of cremation, we can assume that there is also a great deal of difference in the extent of clairvoyance.
These differences are analysed in the book ‘Spiritual Gifts’.
In that book, master Zelanus distinguishes seven grades of clairvoyance and mediumship.
He explains what degree Jozef Rulof has reached, in what degrees other mediums work and how you can distinguish these grades from each other by acting and comparing the knowledge passed on by these mediums.
In that book master Zelanus also analyses the huge difference between Western and Eastern cultures and their spiritual knowledge obtained.
He explains why the East is spiritually superior to the materialistic Western, but that in spite of this the Eastern is not further affected in his spiritual search, because he is attuned in particular to his own illumination, and not to the subservient mediumship.
This is why in the East there is no direct contact with the masters of the light:
In the East there are so many philosophers, and people have contact; remarkable that these laws cannot be received.
And why not?
The human being is not open.
There are so many philosophers, so many occult people in the East, and these messages do not come through.
On the contrary, the philosophers say that it is ‘hygienic.’
What?
How is that?
Do you see?
So people do not even have direct contact there.
There are hundreds and thousands who are open, millions, to the metaphysical laws, the occult laws, they speak and see, disembody; and they do not know that.
That is the first thing that the human being must receive: do not accept any cremation.
Questions and Answers Part 6, 1951
The spiritual laws of cremation, suicide and embalming could only be brought to earth by the masters of the light in the twentieth century, because only then did they have a medium as instrument through Jozef Rulof who could and wanted to receive this wisdom.
The masters indicate that we can establish this fact for ourselves by comparing the wisdom that Jeus (Jozef Rulof) received with what other great philosophers brought:
Thousands of people allow themselves to be cremated, but ‘beyond the coffin’ they do not know the laws for their soul and spirit.
They think that this is better than rotting away in the ground. However, they do not know that it is precisely as a result of this rotting that the spiritual personality absorbs life auras, and needs them in order to begin a spiritual existence, which will serve as a foundation.
Since the mortal being does not know the hereafter, he comes to abnormal thoughts about himself in our life; millions of children of the earth have had to accept that.
You are now faced with a horrific torturing, which is incomparable to anything that you can experience on earth through evil. This is so awful, also so inhuman, that we will do everything to get rid of that and your cursed cremation, and this is only possible now!
Only now, dear reader, because we possess an instrument for this.
Why did Ramakrishna, Dante, Buddha, Pythagoras, and the ancient Egyptians not speak about this?
It was because they could not experience this contact.
You can already see as a result of this, that Jeus will receive a wisdom, which surpasses everything.
Jeus of Mother Crisje Part 3, 1952
The fact that Jozef Rulof can bring to earth the knowledge about the spiritual consequences of cremation received from the masters, in the twentieth century, points to the spiritual evolution of mankind.
The masters refer to the current age in which we live as 'The Century of Christ'.
